Solution Focused Music Therapy
I started developing Solution Focused Music therapy (SFMT) during my education at the Korzybski Institute in Bruge, Belgium, in 2014.
Here are some basic principles of Solution Focused Music Therapy in working with trauma:
SFMT focusses on:
The music you want to listen to
The music and instrument you want to play
How strength and resources are being heard through music
How music can help to establish a safe environment and therapeutic relationship.
How music can help to relax or activate the body and the brain.
How music can help to make yourself feel safe enough to share your story. The stories are about the traumatic experiences, the survivor mechanisms, the strength, resources and hope. The story can be shared by talking, creating music and compose music like a song, rap or improvisation.
The music that makes a difference
The music that inspires
The music that helps you through difficult times
The music that helps to express yourself
The music that helps to feel, see and share your emotions
The music that reflects hope
The music that helps you to be more creative
