The Solution Focused Therapy was developed by Steve The Shazer (1940-2005) and Insoo Kim Berg (1934-2007) in the late 1970’s.
It is a strength-based approach where questions and activities are being used in the direction of the goals, hopes and solutions of the client and the system they live in.
Everybody has the potential in finding their own solutions within themselves and in their system.
The focus is on the solutions who are already there, or have been useful in previous circumstances.
“Being solution focused doesn’t mean being problem phobic.” Insoo Kim Berg.
There will be a respectful listening to the problems of the client which are related to the adversity they encounter in their lives. The questions will have a focus on how people are already dealing and coping with their problems. We will also look for exceptions, the moments where the problems are smaller or even not there.
“ Positive change will never happen without some degree of conflict and resolution of that conflict. “ Dr. Soye Z
In the solution focused approach we will listen with the ear of strength and we will speak of survivors of a trauma instead of victims. (Y. Dolan).
We will look at the positive changes, the moments of hope and expectations for a better and preferred future and what will be the next step in that direction. And becoming aware of the steps that already have been taken.
